The legalisation of online casino gambling in the United States seems to be stuck. But players will be happy to note that online poker is likely to take a small step forward from May 1. The initiative has been taken by WSOP and 888 Poker. WSOP is a leading body that organises poker tournaments throughout the world. 888 Poker is a brand of the 888 group that also operates popular online casinos.

So far three states in America have legalized intra-state online poker. These are Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey. Now it is being anticipated that these three jurisdictions will give approval for pooling players from all three states. WSOP and 888 Poker have already submitted their new poker software to the regulatory bodies in these states for testing. A number of upgrades have been built into the software that will enhance the user experience and keep players engaged.

This move will benefit online poker players in all three states. It will be a huge benefit for Delaware that has an abysmally small pool of players within its own state. The linking of all three states would allow players in Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey to play poker online against each other. This will increase the liquidity at WSOP and 888 Poker and give way for larger prize pools, better game selection, wider time zone coverage and expanded tournament offerings. The process has demonstrated that different regulations administered by multiple regulatory bodies can work proactively together for the benefit of online poker players. It should encourage other interested states to hasten their legalisation of intra-state online poker and also join the pool. This move will ultimately push for legalised and pooled online casino gambling as well.

The Head of Online Poker at WSOP Bill Rini thanked the elected leadership and regulatory authorities in all three American states for their dedication and diligence to help move online poker forward. He pointed out, “Everyone has had the end user in mind throughout this process, and as a result, we believe the United States for the first time in a regulated environment, will have a large-scale multi-state offering that will propel the industry forward as soon as next month.” The officials of 888 Poker and the regulatory boards of the three states also expressed their satisfaction.

Another immediate advantage will be evident in the 49th annual World Series of Poker tournaments beginning on May 29. WSOP.com online players will be able to compete for gold bracelets from their home state for the very first time. The first event has been scheduled for June 3.
